Writing Murder 2: A Fall Festival
A panel discussion instigates two months of classes and panel discussions about writing and publishing crime fiction, co-sponsored by The Mystery Company and the Writer’s Center of Indiana. The award-winning faculty members have published across the specturm of crime fiction and will share their expertise with you.

Cost is $150 ($120 for Writers' Center members and alumni of Writing Murder 1) -- a great price for five classes and two panel discussions.
Sunday, September 14, 2008, 1:00 pm: A Chalk Outline
Jim Huang, owner of The Mystery Company and publisher of the Crum Creek Press, joins Barbara Shoup, novelist and program director for the Writers’ Center of Indiana, and S.M. Harding, writer and coordinator of Writing Murder 2, to explore what is meant by genre fiction, the sub-genres and convention of crime fiction, and to introduce the faculty and the series of classes.

September 17: Scene of the Crime (setting and place as character). Instructor: William Kent Krueger
October 1 : Vics, Villains, & White Hats (point of view: what is it and how does it change the story?). Instructor: Mary Saums
October 15: Just Whistle (how to write good dialogue). Instructor: Mark Richard Zubro
October 29 : Mayhem (how plot and sub-plots work together to advance the story): Instructor: Terence Faherty
November 12: DOA (how to pace your mystery so the reader doesn't check out early): Instructor: Sharon Short
November 16, 1:00: Breaking and Entering
Phil Dunlap and Jeff Stone share their experiences on the road to becoming published writers.
Between them, these mystery writers have had published over 50 novels and numerous short stories, and have been nominated for and/or won most every major award in the genre. Who better to guide you through the maze of genre publishing?
